In June, couturier Rizwan Beyg showed off three fabulous collections at the residence of the Pakistani ambassador in Rome, in a fundraiser for the IDPs from Swat. Each of these collections had earlier been shown to tremendous applause at recent fashion weeks in Colombo, Sarajevo and Karachi.

The black-and-white collection showcased Beyg’s signature layered skirts. Jackets with ruffles complemented the elaborate skirts, which flaunted an exuberant flounce, in outfits that were reminiscent of a day at Ascot. The vintage contrast of black and white came together in alluring evening wear; the gowns displayed neat silhouettes with form-fitting bodices and graceful empire lines.

The classic white collection spelt sophistication and sheer sartorial genius. Embroidery was kept to a minimum and the embellishments on the hem and the neckline were worked in delicate shades of cream. Muslin tops were teamed up with pants and the skirts were layered with wispy material that lent them a light flounce.

Beyg’s white-and-blue collection was inspired by the Multani tile patterns and colours. Structured in white, this collection had clusters of striking bold stones worked into intricate embroidery from a palette of cerulean, azure and white. Shirts sporting flared cuts and long hemlines were paired with tights and heavily worked kurtis, matched with hot pants, epitomised the fusion between traditional eastern wear and daring western garb.
