Newsline Doc Travels to Kerala
Newsline Films documentary Search for Justice (Kis Say Munsafi Chahain) is selected to be screened at the 7th ViBGYOR Film Festival in Kerala, which will be held February 19-26 and the documentary itself will be screened on February 25. The documentary was previously screened at FilUMS 2012 at LUMS , Film Southasia Festival 2011 in Kathmandu and was also selected to be part of the Traveling Film Southasia 2012.
The investigative documentary was made in association with the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER), and examines the hardships faced by workers in Karachi. Through their stories, the documentary illustrates the problems faced by workers, from sexual harassment at work to denial of minimum wages. The Labour Courts in Pakistan were set up to provide workers access to justice. However, they suffer from serious shortcomings, which emerge in a series of interviews with workers, union representatives and legal experts.
The ViBGYOR festival is dedicated to promoting issue-based, non-feature films and the festival hosts conferences, campaigns and discussions to foster a communal space for filmmakers and activists. The theme for this year’s festival is “Lives and Livelihoods.”
